WELCOME BLUE FLAG INDIA

Promoting Sustainable Beaches

Blue Flag is a world renowned international award for beaches, marinas and sustainable tourism boats implemented in over 50 countries. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of international environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained. It is operated under the auspices of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), an international non-for-profit organization, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Blue Flag Beaches in India was initiated in 2018 in partnership with the Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India and the respective coastal states and union territories.

Benefits

Blue Flag Award helps local communities, businesses and governments in many ways:

  • Showcases the beach to the international community
  • Attracts sustainable tourism and improves incomes and livelihoods
  • Improves public understanding about nature and cultural features
  • Protects and conserves the unique natural and cultural assets
  • Promotes a healthier and safer environment

Note: When owners/operators of beaches, marinas and boats are awarded the right to display the Blue Flag, it is because they have satisfied FEE that they complied at the time of award with a number of stringent environmental, educational, safety and accessibility criteria. Following the award, the owners/operators accept full responsibility to ensure continued compliance with all of these criteria. While FEE may carry out checks of sites from time to time, neither FEE, nor any of its officers, members, or jury members accept any responsibility to any person in the event of any noncompliance.
